Healing Touch is a specific form of energy therapy. Healing Touch become a modality in 1989 when Janet Mentgen, a Nurse, sought to bring ancient healing practices into the Western medical model. Janet learned from Spiritual leaders and healers from all over the world. She compiled what she learned into a very specific curriculum to teach people how to utilize energy to facilitate healing.
Healing Touch is similar to other methods of energy work such as Reiki, frequencies of brilliance, or pranic healing (to name a few) in that a practitioner is acting as a conduit for healing energy. Healing Touch is different from other energy work modalities in many ways, such as Healing Touch is (as I mentioned) taught through a curriculum. This means that in every level specific Healing Touch class the same items are taught, to meet the same learner outcomes. The instructors go through rigorous training to teach the healing method. In this way, you can see how a Nurse developed something that would be accepted in allopathic medicine. Somehow Janet found a way to capture something so esoteric (energy healing) and make it practical, repeatable and reputable.
Healing Touch is a heart centered energy therapy. The heart has qualities of compassion, innate harmony, healing presence and unconditional love. These attributes are to guide a Healing Touch Practitioners work.
There are different levels of training in Healing Touch. There are five levels one must complete in order to be eligible for Certification. To be certified one must complete all five levels, read the required texts, and perform 100 healing touch sessions on individuals with the oversight of a mentor. The Board of Directors then reviews applications for Certification before it is awarded. It requires knowledge and skill to work with other people’s energy in a safe, effective, and supportive way.
